 The Christian Faith was etablished in kerala when St. Thomas the Apostle preached the Gospel of Christ in 52 A.D  With the arrival in kerala of 70 families of clergy and laymen from Syrian in 345 A.D the eclesiastic link with the Syrian orthodox Church of Antioch was established and this has been maintained without a break till now. This church is part of the Kottayam Diocese of th Malankara Syrian Orthodox Church under the Holy See of the Universal Syrian orthodox Church of Antioc and All the East based in Damascus, Syria.

Establishment of the  parish as an off-shoot of the mother parish of cheriapally, kottayam. Consecration of the church and dedication of it under the protection of St.John the Baptist by Mathews mar Athanasius, of Malankara. Appointment of Thozhupadan Ouseph Kathanar as the first vicar.   
 
 
   JUNE4th  1895 Jubiliant  reception of Malankara's own beatified Saint. Gheevarghese Mar Gregorios of Parumala and companions on their return from a pilgrimage to the Holy Land, and favoured by the Holy saint with two days' stay in the church.  
 
 
   OCTOBER 3 1905 Unveiling of the legendary portrait of St.Geevarghese Mar Greogorios of Parumala painted by the renowned artist Raja Ravi Varma and which now kept on the   church.

Jubiliant celebration of the Apostolic Vist  of the Partiarch of Antioch, His Holiness Ignatios Abded Aloho.

Commencement of the first Manjanikkara Pilgrimage from this church, with a preludial group of eight pilgrims, an annual event now grown to be the largest of its kind in Asia

Consecration of the present church by Patriarchal Delegate His Grace Elias Mar Julius when the old one was renovated.

 

 

 

 

 

 Antiochean Syrian Movement, an organisation to defend the Faith of the Holy Syrian Orthodox Church constituted and launched from this church under the leadership of the then vicar Very Rev. Vaithra Punnoose Cor-episcoofo
